Any time you search for something online, you are almost instantly presented with a list of (mostly) relevant results from all over the web. Somehow, search engines are able find the web pages that match your specific queries.
A sign of the times and another signal that machine learning is set to dominate the internet going forward. DMOZ was a directory that used actual humans to organise and approve listings, and one of the first places I routinely used to list our sites.
